50 First Dates (Widescreen Special Edition)

Henry finds the perfect woman & falls head over heels. When he sees her the following day, she hasn't a clue who he is. Lucy suffers from a rare brain disorder that wipes her memory clean every night. Henry has to concoct new & increasingly clever ways to meet lucy & get her to fall in love with him every day.

With generous amounts of good luck and good timing, 50 First Dates set an all-time box-office record for the opening weekend of a romantic comedy; whether it deserved such a bonanza is another issue altogether. It's a sweet-natured vehicle for sweet-natured stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and their track record with The Wedding Singer no doubt factors in its lowbrow appeal. But while the well-matched lovebirds wrestle with a gimmicky plot (she has no short-term memory, so he has to treat every encounter as their first), director Peter Segal (who directed Sandler in Anger Management) ignores the intriguing potential of their predicament (think Memento meets Groundhog Day) and peppers the proceedings with the kind of juvenile humor that Sandler fans have come to expect. The movie sneaks in a few heartfelt moments amidst its inviting Hawaiian locations, and that trained walrus is charmingly impressive, but you can't quite shake the feeling that too many good opportunities were squandered in favor of easy laughs. Like Barrymore's character, you might find yourself forgetting this movie shortly after you've seen it. --Jeff Shannon

Just a little history about the people we were with when Nektarios and I met.

These two musicians were playing wonderfully at the Botanical Gardens and had just met for the first time.

Addy Davidson is the last girl in the country who wants to be on the new reality TV show to win a date to prom with the President's son. She's
focused on her schoolwork so she can get a scholarship to an Ivy League college,
uncomfortable in the spotlight,
never been on a date,
and didn't even audition for it.

But she got selected anyway.

So she does her best to get eliminated on the very first show… right before she realizes that the President's son is possibly the most attractive guy she has ever seen in person, surprisingly nice, and seemingly unimpressed by the 99 other girls who are throwing themselves at him.

Addy's totally out of her comfort zone-but that may be right where God can show her the most about who she is . . . and who she was meant to be.
